Letting you in on a secret

If you haven’t heard yet, I’ve written a book. It’s called HURT HEALER.
I want to let you in on a little secret about the book. Well, its not really a secret as much as it’s an “insider” piece of information. In a book there is an inside flap on the book cover that tells you what the book is about. Mine actually contains a quote from my pastor and then it has a small section that describes the content of the book. Well, I had something entirely different I wanted to be placed in that section. However, I just could not get it out of my head and on my laptop. I knew what it was that I wanted to say that would help you get the content but I just couldn’t write it. I had writers block for the inside flap. How goofy is that?
After the final edit and the final deadline, I failed to give them any content to describe the book. I had to leave it in the hands of the team at Baker. I thought they did a good job but I was still freaking out that what I had in my heart I could not get into words. Two weeks out from the release date I sat down at my computer and while typing some talking points for radio interviews about the book something came all over me and in one minute I summed up the whole book and the reason I wrote it in the first place. You are now about to read it….
“All around you are hurting people who are in need of the healing that Christianity provides. But the grind of life deafens our ears to their cry and steals our attention from their need.
Hurt Healer is a stethoscope made of paper, ink and ideas that silences distractions and helps us catch God’s heartbeat for the hurting.
But be warned, this is not a ‘dim the lights and burn a candle’ read. It is not a relaxing rub, but deep tissue therapy. I wrote it to rouse a revolt against spiritual indifference and to provoke a riot of passionate evangelistic humanitarianism. This is the Gospel with the safety off!
In Matthew 5:16, Jesus told us to shine our lights. In essence, He wants us to share our faith. But for many Christians, their lights are off because the Status Quo has short circuited their motivation. This makes the world a dark place to be. Hurt Healer flips the breaker and electrifies a new passion for evangelism. It puts a high voltage spotlight on the good news of the Gospel. News so good that it heals.
We all have friends, neighbors, coworkers and family members who are far from God and whose hearts are hurt so deeply, they seem beyond reach or repair. Hurt Healer breaks the code to mending their hearts. It provides access for the hurting to experience the joy of a God who can heal the deepest wounds of their soul.”
Well thats it. How does it sound? My Wife has read the book and she says it’s “spot on”! I hope you end up getting the book for all the reasons I mentioned above but also because all the proceeds from the book go to our non-profit ministry. They are used to help the hurting pay for housing, utilities, and groceries. It’s all about good deeds meeting good news. So we share the Gospel as we share the groceries! Your purchase will also be used to help orphans all over the world.
With hopes you’ll help me heal some hurts

Well, I couldn’t find your book in the brick & mortar stores but I was even happier to download it to my Kindle for iPad. Now I can have it everywhere I go! I’m only 2 chapters into it, but I like what you wrote above. Here’s a confession: I’ve never shared the gospel directly with anyone before - meaning, like a stranger - straight-up evangelism. But I feel God finally waking up that part of my heart. Looks like your book is divinely timed to encourage this new chapter in my spiritual life. I’ll let you know how it goes!

David,
I am thrilled you got it. Also excited about the future ad the vision I have of you in my mind sharing Christ with someone and seeing them truly get it. Stay in touch though out your journey.

If this is a duplicate comment, my apologies. (I hit submit before, but the webpage gave me an error message, so not sure if it went through.)
As I sit here with tears in my eyes, I would like to say thank you. (Not all tears are a sign of weakness, so much as evidence of pure love that is our God at work.) The heart you put into this book is clearly evident in just the comments and reviews I have read. I haven’t been able to pick up a copy yet, but am looking forward to it! This seems to be a book that very much needs to be in the hands of many hurting and thirsty people. Thanks for the “insider” info! Be blessed my friend!

Tony,
I purchased your book at Xtreme Winter 2010 in Gatlinburg and I am about half way through it. I have to say, it is a wonderful book. You are such an inspirational speaker and writer and I praise God for your faithfulness to carry out His work. I pray that He will use me in a way to help those who are hurting and give me the power to exchange my “to-do” list for the “must-do” moments. Many blessings to you and your family. Continue to fight the “good fight”!
